Knowledge of the movement, behaviour and shoreline impact of an oil spill is fundamental to the planning of a successful response. Building on 30 years of research into oil spill behaviour coupled with a decade of modelling experience, the Oil Spill Information System (OSIS) truly represents the most advanced technology available for predicting oil spill transport and fate.

OSIS was jointly developed between BMT and AEA Technology, incorporating complementary scientific and information system skills based on expertise and user experience gained during numerous spills and training exercises.

Validation
No other model can claim the level of field validation that has supported the development of OSIS. Since the late 1970s over 50 sea trials have been conducted. The resulting information has underpinned the development and validation of the model. OSIS 3.0 is the first model to be supplied with a detailed validation report which demonstrates its performance against real measures.

Emergency Response
In emergency situations, ease of use and speed are paramount to enable a rapid response. OSIS prides itself on being easy to use having incorporated comments from its extensive user base on marine terminals, offshore oil installations, oils spill response vessels and emergency response centres. OSIS has been designed to be the most user friendly oil spill model in the world.

OSIS can be configured to be used anywhere in the world from national scales down to individual marine terminals.
