Oceanographic Data Management and Analysis

Marine studies, whether they are environmental impact assessments, operational projects, sea trials or construction projects will typically require information about local currents, tidal elevations, wave climates and other oceanographic parameters. This data is often required to be reduced using statistical formats such as current roses, wave spectra and extreme projections such as 100-year values. In addition, it is useful to have the data supplied in a format whereby forecasts can be made for future reference and, increasingly, this data is required directly from oceanographic and meteorological modelling organizations, through web-based technology.

BMT Cordah Ltd has over 15 years’ experience of supplying metocean support services to the offshore industry, coastguards, national governments, shipping and survey companies. BMT Cordah’s team of experienced oceanographers, marine scientists and coastal engineers provide a comprehensive capability to source, process and interpret metocean data and deliver reports and bespoke database tools. These capabilities include wave and tidal data analysis, tidal predictions, hydrodynamic modelling, wave modelling, trajectory modelling and pathway studies and development of oceanographic databases for use in BMT Cordah’s software applications. This software can be supplied for use as Digital Current Atlases for use during operations and can also draw data from online data sources such as the UK Met Office near real-time ocean models.
