Our Key People

 

Amanda Pappin PhD MRSC

Amanda is an experienced chemist with over 20 years of laboratory experience.  She has carried out fundamental research across a variety of disciplines and, more recently, has worked for the Scottish Offshore Materials Centre (SOMC), which aims to provide services tailored to the offshore industry. Her research has been presented at national and international conferences. She has also been involved in the teaching of undergraduates and the supervision of postgraduates in the University system. Her principal area of work has been with the permitting processes for Offshore Operations which has involved working with a number of external clients. These permits have included the preparation of PON15B, PON15F, PON15C, PON15D and PON5 permits and include the updating and maintaining of these permits.

 

Ewan Laird

Ewan presently leads the Risk and Data Management Team involved with the permitting processes for Offshore Operations which has involved working with a number of external clients. These have included Nexen, Maersk, BP and Talisman. Previous experience within BMT Cordah and other consultancies focused on preparation of Engineering Drawings and Graphics including GIS and AutoCAD and environmental monitoring. Projects have concentrated on environmental impact assessment, landfill groundwater and noise monitoring, site investigations, wastewater management and treatment, sludge treatment, and water resources.

 

Norman J. Di Perno MBS MSc (Eng) 

 Norman has more than 25 years’ experience in environmental due diligence assessments, environmental impact assessments, regulatory compliance audits, waste minimization audits, environmental risk assessments, hazardous materials storage and handling evaluations, and emergency preparedness/response evaluations. As a project hydro geologist for over 300 small and large scale water supply systems, Norman has been involved the interpretation of geological maps and air photos, logging boreholes, recommending drilling methods, performing pump tests and aquifer yield evaluations, as well as providing advice on groundwater treatment requirements. He has also worked with corporate and government clients in the preparation of their environmental protocol for issues such as environmental impact assessments, long term leases.

 

David Sell BSc PhD CBiol MIBiol 

David has 29 years consultancy experience, gained on a wide variety of environmental projects for clients in industry, development agencies and government.  He specialises in environmental impact assessment, risk assessment, ISO 14001 environmental management systems, training and support for engineering projects, primarily for the international oil and gas sector.  Much of his industry experience arises from secondments into project teams for EPIC contracts, most notably the Shell Brent Spar Decommissioning Project in Norway.  In addition consultancy for UK clients, he has worked in Abu Dhabi, Argentina, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Brazil, Cameroon, Cyprus, France, Holland, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Nigeria, Norway, Portugal, Tunisia and the USA. 

 

Joe Ferris BSc PhD MSc

As an environmental professional, Joe’s work has included impact studies and environmental assessments, statutory planning, ecological field studies, implementation of the ecosystem approach,  protected species studies and consultation, biodiversity planning, ecological risk assessment, and environmental support for offshore and onshore renewable energy projects. As project manager, he has overseen technical and professional staff, multi-year projects, sub-consultants and contractors from invitation to tender through to contract award and job completion. Recent projects have included oil & gas developments and decommissioning, port and harbour development, new power stations, appropriate assessments, subsea cables and pipelines, cumulative effects assessment, biodiversity assessments and water development projects.

 

Jillian Price PhD CEnv CSci CBiol MSB MIEnvSc AIEMA AMIOA

Jillian is an experienced environmental biologist. She has extensive experience undertaking EIA for large, complex infrastructure projects. A registered PRINCE2 Practitioner, Jillian has effectively functioned as Project Manager on a wide variety of projects demonstrating wide abilities to deliver on budget and within tight timescales. She regularly reports on progress and financial profiling to senior management and clients, and is an expert user of Microsoft Project for the management of resources and budget control.

 

Margaret Christie BSc (Hons) MSc (LEDM) AIEMA

Margaret is a Senior Environmental Consultant specialising in waste management, OPEPs and decommissioning.  Margaret’s area of expertise lies in understanding and interpreting the implications of waste legislation for operational and decommissioning activities.  She has undertaken a variety of projects providing support in waste management and general environmental management including the preparation and delivery of environmental awareness training, completion of legislative compliance audits and provision of advice on the implications of waste legislation.

 

Diane Murrison BSc (Hons) MSc CBiol MSB

Diane is a Principal Consultant within the Environmental Appraisal and Management (EAM) Team and she has 16 years of consultancy experience primarily providing environmental support to the oil and gas industry.  Since joining BMT Cordah in 2000, Diane has been involved in the management and submission of BMT Cordah’s Environmental Statements and PON15s for numerous oil and gas operators.  Other project work has included decommissioning studies, Licensing Round Assessments, BPEOs (Best Practice Options Assessments) for the disposal of drill cuttings onshore and offshore, permits for the use amd discharge of chemicals offshore, Environmental Reports for offshore licence block applications and fishing intensity studies. Diane has a broad biological background having completed a BSc (Hons) in Biological Sciences at Napier University and an MSc in Marine Resource Development and Protection at Heriot-Watt University.  Diane is a Chartered Biologist, a Member of the Society of Biology and holds the NEBOSH General Certificate.

 

Kate Black BSc (Hons)

Kate is a Principal Consultant and her experience with the offshore oil and gas industry includes risk assessments for chemicals and oil, the preparation of Offshore Chemical Regulation permits and associated risk mitigation and consultation with asset managers, chemical manufacturers, regulators and their environmental advisors.  This has given her a wide breadth of experience in this industry, including the development and execution of permit schedules.  This knowledge has already proved useful in new fields, such as offshore energy and decommissioning. Kate has significant experience in the decommissioning field through delivering EIAs, comparative assessments and decommissioning programmes and acting as Environmental Advisor to such projects to deliver all environmental aspects of a decommissioning project from concept and planning phases to implementation and close-out.  

 

Emma Guirey PhD MSc BSc (Hons)

Emma has four years’ experience in environmental consultancy for EIA on oil and gas and renewable energy operations. With a PhD in mathematical biology and first degree in mathematics, she gained three years’ experience in applied marine research and an MSc in oceanography before joining BMT Cordah.  Her technical expertise is in underwater noise modeling and assessment, and she also has extensive research cruise experience covering the full range of oceanographic disciplines, including regular ecosystem monitoring work in areas benchmarked for marine renewables development.

 

MacNeill Ferguson PhD Bsc (Hons)

MacNeill is a senior consultant at BMT Cordah; his primary focus is Environmental Impact Assessments and decommissioning studies for the Oil, Gas and Renewables sector. He provides specialist input in benthic ecology, ornithology and oil spill response. He has undertaken environmental/ecological studies across a diverse spectrum of terrestrial and aquatic habitats within the UK and overseas. His research in benthic community ecology in particular, has developed novel methodologies for measuring biodiversity and ecosystem health. His marine experience includes: benthic lander deployment, sediment analysis, habitat mapping, demersal trawl surveys and mammal, bird and invertebrate community surveys around the UK coastline. He has gained a range of experience in other sectors including: 5 years commercial management and 2 years maritime emergency response. His experience includes: counter pollution incident response for H. M. Coastguard, and liaison officer to the Secretary of State Representative (SOSREP).
