About BMT BMT started life in 1985 as an independent research and technology organisation through the amalgamation of two leading research organisations - the National Maritime Institute (NMI) and the British Ship Research Association (BSRA).

Today BMT is independent of government and any manufacturing and is one of the world's leading maritime and engineering consultancies. It provides wide ranging and advanced design, risk management, experimentation and software systems, primarily to environmental, marine, offshore, defence and civil engineering markets through its group of internationally based subsidiary companies.
