BMT Scientific Marine Services Awarded Contract For Riser Tension Monitoring Systems
20-Apr-2010
BMT Scientific Marine Services Inc, a subsidiary of BMT Group Ltd, is pleased to announce that it has been selected by Saipem S.A. to provide a tension monitoring system for two single leg risers. The installation is located offshore West Africa in deep water associated with two Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) units. This will be the fourth Riser Tension Monitoring System (RTMS) that employs BMT Scientific Marine Services' successful Subsea Strain Sensor Assembly (SSSA).
The main function of the RTMS is to provide operators with a drift-free, long-term assessment of the buoyancy force that stabilizes the tower. Strain sensors will be placed between the Riser Top Assembly and the Buoyancy Module. Each RTMS will include the BMT Scientific Marine Services subsea strain sensing assemblies, subsea data acquisition & acoustic communication modules and riser tower mounted receptacles, jumpers between the two, plus FPSO-based acoustic communication and recording hardware as well as monitoring software. A notable feature of this system is that the strain sensors can be serviced using a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV).
BMT Scientific Marine Services brings valuable experience to this project having supplied a Free Standing Hybrid Riser Tower tension, motion and position monitoring system for Petrobras's P-52 platform offshore Brazil, a Hybrid Riser Tower Monitoring System for BP's Greater Plutonio Block 18 and a comprehensive integrity monitoring system for the Cascade Chinook Free Standing Hybrid Riser (FSHR) and Disconnectable Turret Buoy.
BMT Scientific Marine Services is an industry leader in the development and implementation of various offshore monitoring systems and data capturing software systems.
BMT has an excellent track record in supplying 45 major Platform Integrity Monitoring Systems to operators in the Gulf of Mexico, offshore West Africa, the Campos Basin offshore Brazil and offshore Malaysia.
